Water and Slab Leak Detection

slab leak detection

At Los Angeles Plumbing, slab leaks, which are leaks in the plumbing under the concrete foundation of your home, are our specialty. Indications of a slab leak include high gas and water bills, hot or wet spots on the floor, and the sound of running water. We have advanced line tracing equipment and acoustic leak detection that enable us to find slab leaks quickly. We can find your slab leak and repair it in no time.

Use these tips to detect a water leak in your home:

  1. Begin by turning off anything in your home that uses water.
  2. Remove the cover from your water meter.
  3. Identify the leak indicator on your water meter. (It often looks like a red triangle or black and silver disc.) If the leak indicator is turning, then you have a leak. Not all meters have a leak indicator. In that case, check the dial instead. If you see the dial moving, then there is a leak.
  4. Go to the main water shutoff valve for the house, and turn it off.
  5. Back in the house, turn on a faucet. If water will run, that means the shutoff valve isn’t working.
  6. Return to the water meter, and look at the dial. If the leak indicator is moving at this point, it means that there is a leak somewhere between the meter and the shutoff valve.
  7. If the meter has stopped moving, then the leak is located inside the house.
